Christopher Nolan’s latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight is just one of several movies, throughout history, that has been plagued by tragedies. Unfortunately, it seems that the Dark Knight will be thought of as cursed by some, due to a bizarre string of events that took place.
While in production, Conway Wickliffe, a 41 year old special effects technician died. The death occured in September 2007 when the camera truck he was driving crashed into a tree during an action scene involving the Batmobile.
The film which has a very dark and eerie feel to it, offered up some amazing performances. Heath Ledger, who played the Joker, brought a level of madness to the character that is undeniably brilliant. However, the 28 year old Ledger, did not live long enough to enjoy his shot to stardom. He died of a drug overdose in his New York home in January 2008. Some suggested that it was his role as the Joker that left him in a dark and disturbed state, causing his death.
Christian Bale, who played Batman, was arrested the day after the premiere of the movie. It was alleged that he assaulted his mother and sister in a London hotel.
The next to fall victim to the, so called, Dark Knight curse was 71-year old Morgan Freeman, an Oscar winning actor, who played Lucious Fox. In August 2008, Freeman was in a serious accident when the car he was driving swerved off the highway and flipped several times. The Jaws of Life were used to extract Freeman from the car and he was airlifted to a nearby hospital. While listed in serious condition, he was said to be in good spirits. Freeman suffered from a broken arm and elbow, damage to a shoulder and some minor injuries.
Are these tragedies mere coincidence or is there really a Dark Knight curse? You decide.
